WESTERN, N.Y. – Part of Route 46 in the town of Western was closed for several hours Thursday evening following a fatal motorcycle crash.
Just after 5 p.m., New York State Police were called to the scene where a Chevy Traverse and Suzuki had collided on Route 46. Police say 44-year-old Earl D. Turner, of Kentucky, was driving north and slowed to make a left turn on Main Street when 67-year-old Mehdi Tayefeh, of Rome, crashed his motorcycle into the back of the SUV.
Witnesses told police Tayefeh had passed multiple vehicles in a no passing zone prior to the crash.
Police say Tayefeh was taken to Rome Health, where he was late pronounced dead.
Turner was also injured in the crash.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
