UTICA, N.Y. – The Utica Municipal Housing Authority is holding AmeriCorps member recruitment fairs on Wednesday, Dec. 4 and Wednesday, Dec. 11 for people interested in joining the program.
In the Utica MHA program, AmeriCorps members focus on community needs such as economic opportunity, poverty reduction, human services, housing, financial literacy, job development, service coordination, youth, elderly and disabled, as well as veteran services.
Members will also be assigned to work at local agencies serving the disabled, refugees, and immigrants as well as the Utica Public Library Outreach Center, Cornerstone Church, Our Savior Lutheran Church, public housing developments, and other locations through the UMHA Homeless Street Outreach Program.
The sessions will be held from 3 – 6 p.m. on each day at the Chancellor Apartments Community Room, 417 Bleecker St., Utica.
People are asked to bring their resumes to the sessions. Applications are due Dec. 20.
Members will start their 12-month term of service in January, and receive a modest living stipend, an educational award, child care, student loan deferment and training in human services.
AmeriCorps serves residents in Oneida, Herkimer, and Madison counties.
