UTICA, N.Y. – The American Red Cross is offering an incentive for people to donate blood or platelets at any of the many locations in the area.

Through Dec. 18, anyone who donates will receive a $5 Amazon.com gift card via email, courtesy of Suburban Propane.

Those who donate from Nov. 27-30 will also receive a long-sleeved T-shirt, while supplies last.

Right now, there is a critical need for type O blood donors.

The Red Cross says the entire donation process take roughly an hour, but donors can save time by using RapidPass, a questionnaire that can be completed online and save registration time.

The Utica Blood Donation Center at 4685 Commercial Drive in New Hartford is open weekly, Monday and Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., and Tuesday, Thursday-Sunday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
