UTICA, N.Y. - The Alpha Chi Rho fraternity at Utica College kicked off the annual Deep Freeze for Cancer event to benefit the American Cancer Society.
Members of the fraternity camp outside for the entire week to raise money and awareness for the American Cancer Society.
Individuals can contribute to the cause by making a donation in person at the campsite outside of the Strebel Student Center at Utica College.
The goal this year is to raise $6,800.
"A lot of people think we're crazy to be out here but I think doing something so crazy really brings in some money and shows there's a need for scientists to prolong people's lives for the America cancer society," Brian Mazuroski, Utica College alumni said.
Alpha Chi Rho will hold other events throughout that week, including a Drag Day on Monday, Greek life day on Tuesday, candlelight vigil on Wednesday, karaoke night on Thursday, sports night on Friday and will round off with the American Heart Run and Walk on Saturday.
