ORISKANY, N.Y. – A correctional officer and another inmate at Oneida County Correctional Facility have tested positive for COVID-19, just a day after Sheriff Robert Maciol announced 10 inmates had been diagnosed.
The 10 positive inmates lived in a unit with 33 others, who were all tested for the virus. On Tuesday, 29 of the tests came back negative, and Wednesday, an additional three came back negative along with the one positive.
Maciol says the infected officer is currently out of work.
The positive inmates have been moved to the medical unit to be monitored for symptoms.
According to Maciol, some other inmates have reported minor symptoms, and were tested for the virus Wednesday. Those results will be reported when they become available.
