UTICA, N.Y. --- School closings go into effect starting on Monday. Thousands of students will be home and forced to do their school work through an online platform.
Many parents are now looking for daycare options for their kids. The county said they are working on a plan to assist parents, but many parents are also concerned with their new, more involved role in their child's learning.
At a meeting held by the Utica City School Board of Education, board members asked parents to try and be involved in their students learning for the next month.
School officials want to stress that this is not a vacation and that if students don't do the work they are assigned, it could cause them to fall behind when school resumes.
Some of the parents we spoke to already have plans in place to help their kids succeed
"My plan for them is that they stay at home with grandma and I only have two days off a week which really sucks but I kinda planned on making like a little home base and getting that setup," said Emily Stam.
Many schools have lunch plans in place for underprivileged students. For more information on that, contact your school.
