Several burglaries were reported in Herkimer and Montgomery counties over Fourth of July weekend, and authorities are looking for the public’s help finding the suspects.
Lombardo’s Pizzeria and Parkside Drive-in in St. Johnsville, as well as the Ayres Memorial Animal Shelter in Sprakers all reported burglaries that Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office says are likely related.
All of the incidents took place in the early morning hours of July 5. Surveillance video from Parkside Drive-in shows the suspect breaking in and stealing a cash register around 1:45 a.m. The video can be viewed on the sheriff's office Facebook page.
Many small businesses are already struggling due to the coronavirus pandemic, and Parkside owner, Aaron Manikas, says this is just adding to an already difficult time.
"Times are tough for small businesses, not only to have it happen to me but the other businesses that were affected too. It's a lot of effort to get it straightened out, to replace registers, to replace windows -- and again, times are tough anyways for small businesses, so, it's very frustrating,” he said.
Anyone with information about any of these incidents should call the sheriff’s office at 518-673-2554.
