WESTMORELAND – A suspicious substance on a package sent to a home in Westmoreland turned out to be soap, according to the New York State Police CCSERT Team.
Authorities with the Oneida County Sheriff’s Department responded to reports of a suspicious package sent to a home on Skinner Road in the Town of Westmoreland late Wednesday afternoon.
Shortly after investigating, officials said the area was secure and there was no immediate danger to the public, but to be safe sheriff’s deputies called in the New York State Police CCSERT Team to test the unknown substance which was located in a shipping package delivered to the 6127 Skinner Rd.
According to officials the package was marked as soap and CCSERT was able to confirm the package was in fact soap and there were no harmful or dangerous substances present.
Sheriff’s deputies said it appears the item was placed in the package accidentally during the shipping process.
