ROME – An Ava woman was injured in an accident between a car and a school bus in the city of Rome Friday morning, according to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office.
Around 7:33 a.m. Friday, deputies responded to State Route 49 in Rome at the Griffiss exit for a reported personal injury accident.
Deputies say 40-year-old Dean Chrzan of Oriskany was driving a 2011 Birnie Bus Service school bus – which did not have any students on it – eastbound on State Route 49, when he tried to make a lane change and cut off 43-year-old Vicki Lavine of Ava, who was driving a 2015 Chevrolet Cruz.
Deputies say Cruz lost control of her vehicle trying to avoid the bus and then struck a street sign and the center median. She complained of shoulder pain and was transported to Rome Memorial Hospital by AmCare Ambulance.
Chrzan was issued a traffic summons for unsafe lane change and he’ll appear in Rome City Court in April.
The Rome Fire Department and New York State Police also assisted at the scene.
