UTICA, N.Y. – Utica Police received reports of a shooting on South Street at Mohawk Street just before noon on Monday.
A 34-year-old man was found at the scene with multiple gunshot wounds that police say he sustained while sitting in his vehicle.
The man was treated at the scene by the Utica Fire Department and then transported to a local hospital. He is currently in critical condition.
Authorities do not have anyone in custody at this time.
Police are interviewing witnesses who were in the area at the time of the shooting and reviewing video surveillance evidence.
Police were also called to the scene of a shots fired incident on Avery Place in Utica around 12:50 p.m., where they say a suspect fire several shots at a vehicle. Officers say the intended victims in this incident were found and are not cooperating with the investigation.
There is no indication that the two incidents are related.
The Utica City School District was placed on lockout aftr the shooting, and no one was allowed to enter the school during that time. Utica police said in a Facebook post that dismissal procedures proceeded as normal, but all children were escorted outside if they were being picked up.
