Cooperstown, N.Y. - New York State has seen many firsts, but this is new. State Senator, Peter Oberacker, today announced senate passage of legislation to make baseball the state's official sport. He said that after the year New Yorker's had, it was time to get a positive bill across the desk of the senate.
For Oberacker, he says this is a personal connection, and thinks this will bring a sense of what life used to be like before COVID-19 back into the community.
"Let's try it, let's have something like a feel good bill to see if we could move through...
Who doesn't think back? You know me being a former Little Leaguer... Pony Leaguer.. high school and college athlete when it comes to baseball. It just conjures up so many memories that lead us back to normalcy if you will.
The bill is still awaiting assembly approval, which they expect to have very shortly before making its way across Governor Cuomo's desk.
