NEW YORK (AP) - Bassett Healthcare is one of 16 hospitals in New York state will allow visitors as part of a pilot program addressing the heartbreak of COVID-19 patients isolated from their families and friends.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo said visits under the two-week pilot program will be time-limited. Visitors will need to wear protective equipment and will be subject to temperature and symptom checks.
"This is getting visitors back into hospitals with the right precautions, with the right equipment...it is terrible to have someone in the hospital, isolated, not being able to see family and friends," said Cuomo.
More than 5,800 people are hospitalized with coronavirus in New York, as of Tuesday, May 19.
