NEWPORT, NY – New York State Police tell NewsChannel 2 they have located the body of an elderly man who had been missing for more than three weeks.
Troopers say the New York State Police Under Water Recovery Team found the body of 90-year-old William E. Coman of State Route 28 in Newport in the West Canada Creek near West Canada Valley High School.
Coman had not been seen since the evening of Friday, April 2nd when his wife reported him missing. He was said to have been throwing an object into the creek when police say he fell in and did not resurface. His shoe was found floating in the water the next day.
Police changed the search and rescue to a recovery effort a few days later.
Coman’s remains were taken to Albany Medical Center for evaluation. No word yet on an official cause of death.
