UTICA, N.Y. – The Boilermaker is launching a new virtual summer camp to continue the kids in training running program that usually takes place during the summer.
This free virtual camp will run from July 6 through Aug. 14, and is offered in two groups, one for kindergarten through 6th grade, and the other for kids in 7th – 12th grades.
“In addition to the historic global health toll that the coronavirus has taken to date, its reach has also impacted the opportunities for our area’s youth to remain physically active,” said Mark Donovan, Boilermaker president. “So many activities, including our own Kids in Training after school running program, were wiped out from the current spring school session. Our hope is that we can provide a simple pathway for parents to get their children engaged and moving this summer in a safe, controlled manner.”
Registered participant will get weekly emails with a plan for physical activities to do throughout the week. These activities will be geared towards the abilities of each grade group, and are designed to be easily conducted with varying levels of parental supervision.
At the end of six weeks, the program will wrap up with a virtual race in which each participant can run a specific distance at their own pace and on their own schedule between Aug. 15 – 31.
Space is limited and registration is now open.
