BOONVILLE, N.Y. -- In the midst of the fires devastating businesses and apartment buildings on Main Street in Boonville, Mayor Eric McIntyre wants to stress that motorists and pedestrians should avoid several streets within the village.
The mayor is asking people to stay away from Main Street, Post Street and East Schuyler Street. These streets should see minimal traffic, and should be avoided so crews can get the fires under control.
The United Methodist Church at 202 Main St. in Boonville opened its doors at midnight Wednesday for fire victims and the local Red Cross was on the scene immediately.
Adirondack Central School District will be closed on Wednesday, and anyone affected by the fire is invited to take shelter at the elementary school.
The 'What's Happening in Boonville, New York' Facebook page has also created a GoFundMe account to raise money for the fire victims. The group raised more than $1,000 in the first hour.
