The Breast Cancer Awareness Luncheon was held Friday, Oct. 25, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Daniele's at Valley View. The fundraiser was held in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The annual event raises money for the Breast Cancer Center at Mohawk Valley Health System. This year over 300 people attended and over $20,000 was raised. All of the proceeds will remain local and will benefit the Breast Care Center at the Mohawk Valley Health System. The money will be used for anything the center needs including breast cancer treatment and research.
Tickets were $30 and there was a basket raffle. All of the baskets were donated by local organizations such as government offices, retailers, restaurants, the Utica Comets, Utica College Hockey, and artists. The chair covers, flower pots, and decorations were all donated as well.
Susan Palmieri spoke at the event, along with guest speaker and breast cancer survivor Mrs. Shelly Penge. Patti DeCarr, the organizer of the event, also gave a speech. It was hosted by Mayor Robert Palmieri. Excellus Blue Cross Blue Shield and PJ Green sponsored the event.
