Congressman Anthony Brindisi says the 22nd congressional district has the slowest internet in the state, according to data collected in a survey he held over the winter.
Brindisi says more than 1,000 residents participated in the survey, and 120,000 did an online speed test, showing 83% of people were not satisfied with the speed of their internet service. More than 50% even rated their internet company as ‘poor’ or ‘terrible.’
"I think there's got to be greater oversight, and like where companies we see in this area and I’ve seen some of the smaller providers expand into the underserved markets, so we've got to be looking at whose willing to take that risk, to go into rural areas and help those companies along,” said Brindisi.
The congressman has been pushing for better broadband service in rural areas, and says this data will help the Federal Communications Commission better address issues with internet service.
