The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are tracking levels of community coronavirus transmission with cases on the rise across the country.
According to the most recent statistics, the level of transmission in Otsego County is now considered “substantial,” and at that point the CDC recommends everyone resume wearing masks indoors regardless of vaccination status.
There are currently 31 active cases in Otsego County, but no one is in the hospital.
Just last week the Otsego County Health Department reported a concerning uptick in cases, with 12 reported in less than a week. That's after just eight cases had been reported over a three-week span earlier in the month.
More than 63% of adults in the county have received at least one vaccine shot as of Tuesday.
The CDC shows “moderate” spread in Oneida and Herkimer counties.
The areas with the highest levels of community transmission are in New York City and on Long Island.
