UTICA -- People were lined up and dressed in their best attire for CNY’s big night in fashion.
This is the first CNY Fashion Week ever and it featured three designers from Central New York who showcased their designs. Host Liz DeSanctis says fashion week is a big deal for the area.”
“How many times do you get the excuse to dress up like this and have a fun night out in Central New York, in Utica, where it’s, like, focused on talented people doing what they love,” DeSanctis said.
People came from all over Central New York to walk the red carpet, and check out the latest local fashion. The event was put on by KISS FM and Ilion native designer Mae Richards. Organizers say putting on the show came with some obstacles.
“We’ve been talking about this since January, so the fact that it’s now Aug. 10. It’s here. It’s happening. It’s kind of like, I got to fan myself. Make sure everybody’s in their places, and it’s very, very exciting,” DeSanctis said.
NewsChannel 2s Don Shipman was also on hosting duties for the night.
Designer Chloe Schnell says her biggest challenge was bringing her design ideas to life.
“I come up with some pretty Avant-Garde things and they’re … not usual clothes,” Schnell said. “They’re something that’s coming from my brain, so I have to come up with how it’s going to become a garment that can go on a human being.”
The event also serves as a fundraiser to benefit the charity ‘Life House CNY’.
DeSanctis says it’s nice to see all her hard work pay off.
“We have a lot of moving pieces. With the fashion show, with the music, with the entertainment aspect of everything. So, to have this event be here, and it’s happening, and it’s working smoother than how I had imagined, it’s pretty surreal."
The fashion show will air as an hour-long special on CBS Utica on Sept. 13.
