UTICA, N.Y. – The Central New York Labor Council will be handing out turkeys and other Thanksgiving food items to former Remington employees on Thursday.
The food will be distributed in the Francesca’s parking lot at 144 E. Main St. in Ilion, starting at noon. There are 250 turkeys available.
Nearly 600 employees were laid off from the Ilion plant after the company went bankrupt and sold in pieces.
The United Mine Workers of America 717, the union that represents the workers, say the former employees were denied severance and other benefits agreed to in their contracts with Remington. They’ve been holding rallies to demand compensation since the layoffs.
About 200 workers are expected to be called back to work at the plant, according to new owner, Roundhill Group.
