CNY Memorial Stair Climb draws hundreds

The CNY Memorial Stair Climb honors the first responders who were killed while saving lives in the 9-11 terrorist attacks. More than 400 local first responders, including firefighters, police officers and EMS personnel, climb the steps of the State Office Building, in Utica.

Utica, NY - The CNY Memorial Stair Climb honors the first responders who were killed while saving lives in the 9-11 terrorist attacks. More than 400 local first responders, including firefighters, police officers and EMS personnel, climb the steps of the State Office Building, in Utica. 55 flights up, 55 flights down. This is in honor of the 110 stories that were in the World Trade Center.

The climb started at 8:46 a.m. Saturday, the time the first plane struck the World Trade Center in 2001. Each participant climbs in memory of a 9-11 hero.

Following the climb, the annual Brotherhood Bash will be held at Sickenberger Lane on Varick Street, from 2-10 p.m. This event is open to the public for a $5 entry, and Simple Props will provide music from 6-10 p.m.
