ILION, NY – The Central Valley School District held an informational session on the dangers of vaping Tuesday in the CVA auditorium.
Parents, community leaders, staff, even students attended the “Weed Between the Lines/You’re Vaping Me Crazy” program that was put on by Steered Straight incorporated.
School officials were pleased with the turnout saying it’s very important to get the message out to the community so they realize just how harmful these products are.
Many vaping products look like common everyday devices and could possibly be in homes right now without people realizing it.
CVA principal Richard Keeler says the district is doing everything it can, but they still need help.
“Now we’re starting to find marijuana-based products in their vapes. They’re testing positive for THC, as well as other things that are concerning to us, and that’s right here in the building. To date, we’ve suspended over 80 students this school year for vaping.”
Central Valley has a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to vaping.
Under New York law, vaping products are treated just like tobacco products.
Their use and possession on school grounds are illegal.
