In less than two weeks, from November 27th through December 9th, there were five reported robberies of cab drivers and Domino's Pizza delivery drivers in Utica. At CNY Cab and Car Service, that means fear....with every fare.
"He got the driver with a gun, and he didn't get hurt, thank God, but he took all the money that the cab driver had. So we're very, very nervous about this going on. It's not just our company. It's a lot of companies," said employee, Kathy Hubbard. Hubbard can't help but feel apprehensive every time she sends a driver out at night.
"You don't know who you're sending out and to where. They could be hiding in an alley way and just jump out. We tell the drivers, keep your foot on the gas. If anybody just runs out at you, take off, and that's a terrible way to have to be picking people up," says Hubbard.
"At this point, we're looking at some similarities amongst all five of them," says Lt. Bryan Coromato, of Utica Police. "There has been a range, victims encountered a single suspect or multiple suspects.
Coromato hopes current leads will soon lead to relief for those who have been victimized and traumatized.
"We do have some descriptions and like I said, we are following up some leads on the case so hopefully we'll have a conclusion here soon."
