UTICA, N.Y. -- The city of Utica and the Harbor Point Development Corporation are calling for proposals to redevelop the waterfront site.
The proposals should focus on the land on the south side of the Inner Harbor, and the redevelopment of the 1933 building that is currently owned by the New York State Canal Corporation.
The original plan was to start with private development on the back side of the harbor, but with a lot of interest in waterfront, the timeline has changed.
The city would like to hear about restaurant options and marina services, for example, that could co-exist with sports fields and an amphitheater.
“For people who have a vision, like our vision, for developing the harbor in a mixed-use application. now that the balk heads are being repaired it makes it a little bit easier for the developers to look at project that the city and the state and the Canal Corp is invested into,” said Mayor Robert Palmieri.
Proposals are due by September 6.
