CAMDEN, N.Y. – A Camden man has been charged after allegedly stealing copper from a home he was evicted from in March.
Joshua E. Chamberlain, 26, is charged with burglary and falsifying business records, both felonies.
In April, troopers were contacted by a recycling center, notifying them that Chamberlain had sold an unusually large amount metal, including about 187 pounds of copper and 41 pounds of aluminum radiator coils.
Police took pictures of the metals, but had no lead on a theft or break-in until June 5, when a burglary was reported on Preston Hill Road in town of Vienna. Chamberlain knew the home because he had been evicted from several weeks prior.
When police showed the photos of the copper, the homeowner recognized it through unique paint markings, indicating that the metal was stolen from that home.
Chamberlain was arraigned and is being held at the Oneida County jail without bail.
