CANASTOTA, N.Y. -- Assemblyman John Salka's (R-Brookfield) ongoing efforts made to save an important traffic light in Canastota have finally paid off.
Salka said the traffic light at the dangerous intersection of Peterboro and Center Streets will stay right where it is.
Salka has been a strong voice and advocate in the need for the light. He's previously met with DOT officials and several other town representatives on the matter.
In a statement, Assemblyman John Salka (R-Brookfield), explains why keeping the light is in the town's best interest.
"After receiving a petition with over 1,000 signatures, our number one priority on this issue was safety and to save the light, Salka said. "We wanted to make sure that this intersection was safe for crossing the street, for driving through town and that it had a proper design."
Salka says town officials are now proposing to replace the light with a new, up-to-date model that meets better safety requirements. The new lights will come equipped with bumpouts, for pedestrian safety.
