UTICA, N.Y. – The man facing charges after leading police on a chase from Utica to Hamilton County last month, appeared in court on Tuesday.
Eric Baker is charged with two counts of robbery and reckless endangerment, after allegedly stealing a car from a Utica gas station in July.
Baker virtually appeared in Utica City Court, yelling and swearing, claiming he was innocent. Due to his behavior, the judge ordered a psychiatric evaluation before proceeding.
Samantha Drake, the woman whose care he allegedly stole, attended the court appearance.
"That made no sense to me how he acted today. So, if he wants to say he's innocent he has that right. But I will be there every day to prove that he stole my car from me and that he took a piece of me,” said Drake.
Baker’s next hearing is scheduled for Sept. 10.
