UTICA, N.Y. – The Cell Phones for Soldiers campaign received more than 1,000 devices to be recycled, the second-highest amount in the past five years.
Sen. Joe Griffo, R-47, worked with AT&T and the CNY Veterans Outreach Center to collect old cell phones and tablets to recycle and raise funds to purchase calling cards for soldiers.
"We thank the businesses who allowed us to put those receptacles up for people to donate the phones. It’s going to provide over 163,000 calling minutes for our men and woman that serve in the military both here domestically and abroad," said Griffo.
The collection has taken place over the past month at more than 17 locations throughout the area.
