ROME- The Veterans Memorial Park was packed with people on Monday morning. All of them paying respects to the people who gave their lives for the nations freedom.

This ceremony has been going on for about 50 years. The master of ceremonies this year was former Common Council President John Mazzaferro.

After Mazzaferro spoke, there was a retiring of the colors, playing of the national anthem, a memorial wreath presentation, a reading of 100 names of people who gave the ultimate sacrifice, reading of poems and a ringing of the bell.

Organizers said this is an event that brings everyone together.
