SPRINGFIELD, N.Y. -- A Cherry Valley man is facing several felony charges after police say he stole beer and assaulted an officer.
According to state police, troopers responded to Springfield Cemetery after a report that, 26-year-old Derek Zigon, stole beer from Tom and Kelly's Convenience Store, and then fled the scene.
Police say Zigon shattered a window to get into a home on State Route 80. When authorities found him they say he resisted arrest and kicked two troopers, injuring one's lip and wrist.
Zigon is facing assault, criminal mischief, resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration and petit larceny charges.
He has been taken into custody and arraigned in Springfield court, and is being held on $10,000 cash bail.
