ONEONTA, N.Y. ---The City of Oneonta has reached an agreement with the owners of the former Ford building on Market street.
City Common Council voted to purchase the property for $425,000.
The building has sat vacant on Market street for decades.
"We've had an opportunity to negotiate with the owners of the building, We've reached an agreement on the price, they wanna sell, we wanna buy. We have the grant to demolish the building from Restore New York and remove an important piece of urban blight from our downtown," said Oneonta Mary Gary Herzig.
The project is part of the city's urban revitalization plan. The mayor said that a big part of that plan is redeveloping Market Street.
The city plans on demolishing the building. But before on work can be done on the property, the Mayor said a lot of environmental cleanup has to take place.
Many residents including that Mayor have called the building an eyesore, and look forward to seeing the property redeveloped.
No time table has been set on when demolition will take place. The Mayor said that once the property is demolished, they will market it out to developers.
