ONEONTA, NY - The city of Oneonta has been without a City Manager following the departure of George Korthauer in February.
Since then the common council has been looking at redefining the position, deciding to change the title to that of a City Administrator.
The Oneonta common council met Monday evening to hash out a job description for the new position. Council members discussed residency requirements, the input a City Administrator would have on making a city budget, and their ability to hire and fire personnel.
All changes to the job description have to be finalized in the city charter.
Mayor Gary Herzig says the next items of discussion will be how to fill the position.
“There are considerations on consolidating it, which would limit it to a current employee and promoting from within. Or do you do a search? Should that search be just local or regional? Should it be national?"
The council will meet again on October 29 to review a draft of the changes made to the city charter regarding the City Administrator position.
