HAMILTON, N.Y. - It appears the Raiders will skate on.
Colgate Athletics confirmed with NEWSChannel 2, Tuesday, that the school is still planning on moving forward with the men's and women's ice hockey seasons, in some fashion, despite a majority of its conference opponents deciding not to play.
RPI and Union cancelled its 2020-21 men's and women's ice hockey seasons amid the coronavirus pandemic this week, joining the Ivy League schools of Brown, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Princeton, and Yale, who have had all winter sports cancelled this academic year.
This means there are just four of the 12 ECAC member schools, including Colgate, who have not announced a cancellation of the season.
No season schedule has been announced just yet as the athletic department said that details are still being finalized, but the department expects to have an official announcement regarding the season within the next few days.
In 2019-20, the Raiders men's ice hockey team went 12-16-8, but swept Brown in two games in the first round of the ECAC Tournament to advance to the Quarterfinals against RPI before the season was abruptly cancelled in the onset of the pandemic.
The women's team, meanwhile, went 17-15-6, and had completed its season after getting swept in two games to Clarkson in the best-of-three ECAC Quarterfinals.
