Hamilton, NY – Three is the number for Colgate.
After a 3-2 overtime win in the season opener Friday night, the Raiders powered their way to a 3-1 win over Syracuse at home in the Class of 1965 Arena Saturday afternoon.
The action began in the first five minutes.
Just 1:28 into the first period, Colgate junior forward Eleri MacKay scored her first goal of the year to take an early 1-0 lead. Minutes later, Syracuse sophomore forward Brynn Koocher responded with a goal of her own. This goal was originally given to senior Kristen Siermachesky, the announcers then clarified that it Koocher is the scorer.
This game would remain knotted up at 1-all until about midway through the third period. With 8:40 left in regulation, Colgate junior forward Rosy Demers scored to give the raiders a 2-1 lead. Less than a minute later, Demers would assist on a second MacKay goal to take a 3-1 lead. The Raiders would hold off the Orange and win 3-1 to earn the weekend sweep.
Freshman goaltender Kayle Osborne made 14 saves to earn her first win with the program.
Colgate now leads the series 15-5-3. The last Orange win over the Raiders was during the 2014-2015 season.
