Brendan Woods, son of former Utica Devils defenseman Bob Woods, will get a chance to play in front of family and friends this season with the Comets.

The Comets center is excited to follow in his father's footsteps. His dad began his professional hockey career in 1989 with the Utica Devils.

"It's exciting," said Brendan. "It's where my dad's career all started. I mean it's funny because usually I'm coming back here and it's for a holiday or vacation to see family but now it's kinda serious and it's for a job. I gotta kinda put sometimes family aside and realize I gotta focus on hockey, kinda be selfish but it's very exciting. It's nice I'm staying with my aunt and uncle right now so it's nice to save some money on rent and get a lot of free meals. It's actually really cool though."

While playing for the devils, Bob met his future wife and Brendan's mom.

"They met in a bar and brought him home," said Brendan's grandma Sally. "And the first time he came to my house, he cleaned up all of the dishes and washed them and I said, 'he's a keeper.'"

After Mike Zalewski's departure this past season, Brendan is the closest we have to hometown product.

"I mean it's just another day for me, I don't really put too much pressure on myself," added Brendan. "My aunts will be making sure, like I score a goal. It's not really my game to score a goal but any chance you get to play in front of your family, it's awesome. I'm looking forward to November 1, and it can't get here soon enough."

The Comets home opener is scheduled for Wednesday, November 1 against the Rochester Americans.

During his Utica Devils day, Bob Woods was roommates with Comets Director of Hockey Operations Pat Conacher. Woods is currently an NHL assistant coach with the Minnesota Wild.
