Utica, N.Y. - As the Utica Comets get set to begin training camp for the 2020-21 season, the team announced its roster for the preseason that includes prospects from the Vancouver Canucks and St. Louis Blues, Monday.
The Canucks will have 12 players in Utica to prepare for the AHL season: eight forwards, three defensemen and one goaltender.
Many are familiar faces including Sven Baertschi, the leading returning scorer from last season. Jake Kielly is the goalie, he suited up in two games for the Comets last year.
Three rookies join the fold from the Canucks organization: forwards Carson Focht and Will Lockwood, and defenseman Jett Woo.
Focht and Woo are coming to the Comets from the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League (WHL), a major junior league.
Lockwood comes out of the University of Michigan where he was the captain of the Wolverines and second on the team in scoring with 23 points (9 g, 14 a) in 33 games.
For the first time ever, the Comets will have players on the roster from a different NHL organization other than the Canucks with the Blues sending 14 players to Utica: eight forwards, four defensemen and two goalies.
Sam Anas is in his first year with the Blues organization. Last season, he lead the AHL in scoring with 70 points (20 g, 50 a) for the Iowa Wild, while earning an all-star selection. His 50 assists also lead the league.
Curtis McKenzie brings a wealth of experience to the lineup. He's suited up in 99 NHL games where he has 23 points (10 g, 13 a). In the AHL, he has 355 games under his belt with 286 points (119 g, 167 a).
Evan Fitzpatrick and Jon Gillies are the goalies representing St. Louis in Utica this year.
