Syracuse, N.Y. - The Utica Comets went 0-for-5 on the power play while giving up two power play and two shorthanded goals as they fell 6-2 to the Syracuse Crunch at the War Memorial, Saturday.

In the first period, Cory Conacher scored two goals in a span of 25 seconds in order to put the Crunch up by two.

Reid Boucher, returning from a hand injury after missing seven games, scored 15:10 into the opening frame in order to draw Utica to within one.

With under one minute remaining in the period, Alexander Volkov wristed a shot past Comets goalie Michael Leighton and the Crunch lead 3-1 after one.

The middle stanza would not be much kinder to Utica. 6:21 into the second, Ben Thomas scored and the Crunch went up 4-1. That would be the end of Leighton's night in goal.

11:05 into the period, Alex Barre-Boulet light the lamp for a 5-1 Syracuse lead. The Comets responded 37 seconds later with Tanner Kero finding the top right corner off a backhand to bring the Comets back within three.

Volkov tallied his second of the night 12:12 into the final frame and that would conclude the scoring.

The Comets, who sit four points out of a playoff spot with eight games to play, are next in action against the Toronto Marlies at home on Friday, March 30.
