LAVAL, Quebec - The Utica Comets rallied back from four different deficits to pick up a point, but fell to the Laval Rocket 5-4 in overtime at Place Bell, Wednesday.
Charles Hudon scored his 22nd of the season, on a power play, just 1:27 into the game to put Laval on the board first.
Three minutes later, the Comets responded with a power play goal of their own with Francis Perron jamming home a loose puck in the crease with assists from Jonah Gadjovich and Lukas Jasek.
Hudon's seconds of the game also came with the man advantage to give the Rocket it's one goal lead back to end the scoring in the first period.
Special teams continued to be vital with another Comets power play goal tying it back up in the second, with Guillaume Brisebois deflecting a puck off a Rocket defender's stick and into the goal to make it 2-2.
The tie was broken yet again with a shorthanded goal for Laval, cashing in with Jake Evans going end-to-end to put the Rocket up 3-2.
Less than two minutes later, John Stevens snapped a shot top right corner to pull Utica even yet again.
In the third, Evans scored his second of the night and the team's third power play goal for its fourth separate lead of the contest just under four minutes into the frame.
Reid Boucher put in his 25th of the year, a one-timer off a feed in front from Carter Camper behind the net as the Comets stormed back one more time to eventually force overtime.
Just 46 seconds into the extra period, Xavier Ouellet ended it with an individual effort in the offensive zone.
The Comets return to action on Saturday at home against the Syracuse Crunch at 7 p.m.
