Utica, N.Y. - The Utica Comets gave up five straight goals and a three-goal lead as they fell 5-3 to the Binghamton Devils at the Adirondack Bank Center, Wednesday.
Zack MacEwen, Lukas Jaek and Nikolay Goldobin were the goal scorers for Utica, while Michael DiPietro made 21 saves between the pipes.
MacEwen's goal opened the scoring with 5:54 left in the opening period when he took a one-timer in the slot off a feed from Carter Camper.
Jasek light the lamp 2:50 later after deflecting a back door pass from Kole Lind off his skate. The play was reviewed, but determined there was no kicking motion and the goal stood to double Utica's lead.
In the second, Goldobin scored a power play goal off a rebound from a Reid Boucher shot to increase the lead to three.
With 12:47 to go in the middle frame, Binghamton got on the board with Brett Seney going top shelf over the shoulder of DiPietro on the power play. Then Jesper Boqvist brought the Devils within one just two minutes later.
Six minutes into the third Mikhail Malsev tied the game at three with another power play goal, with Brandon Baddock notching the game winner with 6:55 to go.
Joey Anderson then iced it with an empty netter with 16 second remaining.
The Comets return to action on Friday against the Belleville Senators. Puck drop is at 7 p.m.
