Hershey, PA - Michael DiPietro's 38 saves helped the Comets to their seventh straight win to open up the year, a 2-1 shootout victory over the Hershey Bears at Giant Center, Saturday.
Adam Gaudette's first of the season got the scoring going in the first period, a lead that would last until the third.
In the middle frame, DiPietro made 14 saves as the Comets were outshot 14-4, but remained in the lead heading into the locker room.
The third period saw the Bears knot things up with Phillippe Maillet squeezing a shot through DiPietro. The rest of regulation and overtime yielded no results.
In the shootout, DiPietro stopped all three shots he faced, while Reid Boucher ended it with a goal for the win.
The Comets are back in action against Wedesday night at the Adirondack Bank Center against the Binghamton Devils.
