Utica, N.Y. - The Utica Comets scored four goals in less than four minutes in the second period as they skated past the north division leading Toronto Marlies 6-4 at the Adirondack Bank Center, Wednesday.
Lukas Jasek scored twice, while Reid Boucher notched a 'Gordie Howe Hat Trick' with a goal, assist and fight. Francis Perron, Guillaume Brisebois and Kole Lind were the other goal scorers for the Comets, while Michael DiPietro made 27 saves in goal.
Jasek scored his first of the night nine minutes into the opening frame, putting his own rebound into the net after hitting the post with the initial shot. Justin Bailey assisted on the goal.
Former Comet Tanner MacMaster knotted it back up at one with a power play goal 17:16 into the period.
The Comets scoring flurry began just 1:21 into the middle stanza as Perron scored a one-timer in the slot off a feed from Nikolay Goldobin. Carter Camper had the secondary assist on the play.
Just 53 seconds later, Brisebois put in a one-time blast of his own following a cross-ice feed from Boucher to make it 3-1.
The next strike came 51 seconds following that goal with Jasek's second of the game on a tight angle shot after getting a pass from Goldobin.
Four minutes into the period, Lind scored off a rebound from a Sven Baertschi shot to make it 5-1.
Another former Comet, Darren Archibald, got the Marlies back on the board with a tally with under seven minutes to play before Garrett Wilson cut the Comets' lead to 5-3 with just one second remaining.
The Marlies got to within one 12:08 into the third with a goal from Mason Marchment, but Boucher sealed the deal with an empty net goal with only 16 seconds to go.
Utica returns to the ice on Friday at home when they take on the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. Puck drop is at 7 p.m.
