Rainbow the Music Man has been a staple in the Utica community for years. You can find him along Varick Street either singing, playing his trumpet, or playing some tunes on his accordion. Back in April, he was assaulted on Varick St causing his accordion to be damaged.
Since then a couple of members from the community started a Facebook page and a GoFund Me Page to help him replace it. The page raised over 6,000 dollars. Rainbow's new accordion was presented to him at one of his favorite places on Varick St, Nail Creek pub.
"We got a lot more outpouring than we thought we were going to get. As far as what's going to happen with the balance that's leftover, we are going to have to have a conversation with Rainbow. We're going to talk to him and see what else he might need or if there are other ways we can help him out," said Mark Diorio, who started the GoFund Me Page.
Rainbow wishes to give the balance that is not used, to a local charity of his choice.
