UTICA, N.Y. – It was a special day for Utica’s Edith Morse Thursday, as she celebrated her 100th birthday with family, friends and the mayor by her side.
Mayor Robert Palmieri, Utica firefighters, and staff at The Grand nursing home in Utica all helped Edith celebrate, in a healthy and safe way.
Palmieri even presented her with a Certificate of Recognition, making April 30 Edith Morse Day in the city of Utica.
Edith’s son, David Morse, also visited his mother for her birthday, from outside her window.
"She's the type to say ‘Don’t do a lot, no I don’t want anything.’ But yeah, she's going to have something for her 100th birthday,” said David.
Edith was born and raised in the Mohawk Valley, and attended Whitesboro High School.
