ONEONTA – Hundreds of students and community members came out to support a SUNY Oneonta student, who died Dec. 2nd.

SUNY Oneonta held a celebration of life service to remember Daniel William Michaels.

According to police, the 18-year-old, from Long Island, had a mixture of drugs and alcohol in his system.

During the service those in attendance watched a video honoring Michaels, and left heart-felt messages on cards and posters to remember him.

Michaels, who studied business economics at SUNY Oneonta, was pronounced dead at Fox Hospital, after being discovered unresponsive in a private Oneonta residence.

While Reports have linked Michaels to the Alpha Pi fraternity, police do not believe that hazing was a factor in his death.

Alpha Pi is not a recognized fraternity at SUNY Oneonta. The college became aware of the group’s existence after investigation into Michaels’s death began.
