UTICA – Jury deliberations in the Kaitlyn Conley murder retrial continue today in Oneida County Court.
Conley, 24, of Sauquoit, is accused of poisoning her chiropractor boss, Dr. Mary Yoder, to death in 2015 using the common gout medicine Colchicine. Conley’s first trial ended with a hung jury in May.
Conley is charged with second-degree murder, and the prosecution has also added on the lesser charge of first-degree manslaughter that the jury can consider only if they find her not guilty of second-degree murder. The prosecution dropped the two counts of falsifying business records so that the jury could solely focus on the murder charge.
The defense and prosecution made their closing arguments on Thursday, and the jury was instructed and began deliberating after 3 p.m.
In Conley's first trial, the jury deliberated for five days before announcing they were hopelessly deadlocked and could not come to a unanimous decision.
