ROME, N.Y. – Ground was broken Wednesday at the Air Force Research Laboratory to begin construction on a new fence that will create a security perimeter around the Rome facility.
The $13 million in funding was secured in the 2019 defense appropriations bill. Four Tribes Enterprises out of Maryland has been contracted for the build.
“The security of our airmen and the security of our technology is critical. It is something that we have to make sure we do the right way. The world has changed and we have to ensure we are keeping those airmen who are doing this critical mission here, safe and secure,” said Gen. Arnold Bunch Jr.
The fence will include lights, cameras and a control point for secure entry into the facility.
Officials say the project should be completed in about 18 months.
