Work is currently underway at the Utica Public Library on Genesee Street.
The front steps are being redone in the next few weeks, and some other projects include new flooring, new bathrooms and moving the youth services room from the basement to the first floor. A computer room will be turned into the new children’s center.
Funding for the project comes from several organizations, including the Community Foundation funding that was secured in last year’s New York State Budget by Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi and Sen. Joseph Griffo.
“We have hundreds of community organizations that come in a use this space because it's welcoming, its neutral, and we're supportive of the work that people do that make the city a better place,” said Chris Sagaas, director of the Utica Public Library.
