COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. – A runoff election will be held to decide who gets the second trustee seat in Cooperstown, after two candidates tied at 272.
A recount was held after Tuesday’s election, and officials still came up with the same number of votes for both incumbent Democrat Macguire Benton, and Republican challenger, Mary Margaret Robbins.
Incumbent Democrat Joe Membrino has unofficially secured one of the trustee seats with 287 votes.
The second election will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 29, at the Cooperstown Fire Department from noon to 9 p.m.
