SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The court appearance scheduled for the Cooperstown Junior-Senior High School physical education teacher accused of receiving and distributing child pornography online has been adjourned until next week.

Justin Hobbie was due to appear in Syracuse's United State District Court Wednesday afternoon.

Federal authorities say Justin Hobbie had numerous video files on his computer depicting child pornography.

Hobbie's attorney sent a letter into the judge, asking for more time to prepare for the case.

If convicted, the 41-year-old faces between five and 20 years in prison, as well as post-release supervision and a fine. He would also have to register as a sex offender.

The Cooperstown school superintendent will not discuss employment status, but did send an audio message to parents of students alerting them to Hobbie's arrest.

The school superintendent says there is no evidence that Cooperstown students were involved.

Hobbie is rescheduled to appear in court on December 19.
