A Cooperstown woman has become one of seven Democratic candidates hoping to challenge Republican Congressman John Faso for the 19th Congressional District seat this fall.
Erin Collier is an eighth-generation native of the 19th Congressional District and a fifth-generation farmer. She worked as an agricultural economist under the Obama administration, and she previously worked for the U.N. in Thailand.
“Erin is running for Congress because we need a leader in Congress that will fight hard for this district every day, something our leaders in Washington have forgotten how to do,” her campaign website says. “We need a leader that will fight to protect access to healthcare, fight for working families, and stand up to Donald Trump's agenda.”
You can view her campaign video, “I Won’t Let Those Boys Beat Me,” here.
Collier and six other Democratic candidates will face off in a primary election on June 26. The other Democratic candidates include Jeff Beals, David Clegg, Antonio Delgado, Brian Flynn, Gareth Rhodes and Pat Ryan.
Independent candidates planning to run in the 19th Congressional District race include Diane Neal and Luisa Parker.
John Faso was elected to the 19th Congressional seat in 2016.
